I took to the TEDx stage September 23, 2017 to talk about how I am–and you are–a perfinker. Knowing this about human beings matters a great deal when it comes to education.
My talk was entitled Engage Emotion, Engage Imagination: Cognitive Tools At Work
A synopsis: Human beings are emotional and imaginative; they feel and envision possibilities. Unfortunately, many common educational practices neglect this fact. My idea worth sharing is that all educators can use tools of imagination to make everyday education more effective for all learners.
Would welcome your feedback, comments, questions!
Over the next few weeks I will share other talks from the event, all focused on the power of IMAGINATION.
Gillian,
I have found you and your #imagined by fluke but the more I listen and read about it the more I realize it is exactly what I’ve been trying to do more of in my classrooms! I teach Kinder and gr.3 in YYC and have had a hard time connecting literature and curriculum over the years. Slowly I am compiling more and more literaturw and creating thw program I feel confident about. It is SO true that stories bring learning alive and that we are all Perfinkers!!
I am starting off my gr.3 math and science next week with storytelling and want to thankyou for the confidence boost I needed to feel confident about doing it!
Hi Xena. I’m so glad you found us 🙂 There are tons of posts on imaginED that might interest you and tons of imaginative educators that think as you do!
We are ALL perfinkers–so let’s teach accordingly! I hope you’ll stay in touch and share your imaginative practices with our community.
